“Dedicate yourself to a core set of values. Without them, you will never be able to find personal fulfillment, and you will never be able to lead effectively.” Kenneth Chenault

CORE VALUES: YOUR INTERNAL GPS

do what you can2.JPG

When was the last time you used the Maps App on your phone or a Garmin to get you TO your destination AND with the least amount of obstructions?  I use my Maps App many times to get me to my desired location. I never ask it to just take me “anywhere.” We talk a lot about goals and vision, which are awesome. However, before you write down your goals and vision, take time to think internally. Who will be the person that will accomplish those goals, make the decisions and show up in that designed space? Your core values are the internal compass that say yes to the goals. Your personal core values are like your own GPS system. I love what my dear friend Bernadette Johnston at bernadettejohnson.com said, “Our values act as our internal GPS!”

I recently read the average adult makes 35,000 decisions per day. Wow! How many of you want to make those decisions with the best intentions? Your core values can help you. Your personal core values encompass your foundational beliefs, which influences your behavior and helps you make decisions. I've heard it said personal core values operate in the background of our mind to influence your behavior. You need to be intentional when designing your core values because so much depends on it.

I only became aware of developing my core values a few years ago. I was very familiar with core values from a corporate standpoint, but not a personal level. When I have interview with companies, the first thing I look at are their core values. When I work for a company, I get familiar with the core values so may I align myself and my work to the corporate core values so I am going in the same direction as the company.

Your core values are the things you hold dear and are important to you, such as your family values, integrity, honesty, trust, loyalty, hard work, self-development, growth mindset, passion, gratefulness, being your best, wisdom and so many more.

LET’S CREATE YOUR CORE VALUES

I believe your core values help create your personal culture (how you show up in your space).

* Do a brain dump of what you value (honesty, integrity, etc.)
* Consider the people you admire and why?
* Review your best and painful moments in your life. Your core values may be there.

* Rate the importance of the values you have listed (1 - 10).

* What values are important to you now?
* Can you embrace those values and walk them out?
* Do the values align with your WHY?

What core values did you come up with?  Give yourself time to develop, define and refine your core values.

MINDSET RESET WITH YOUR CORE VALUES

We all know you have the ability to rewire our brain. One of those ways is to define and align yourself with YOUR core values through your MINDSET. As we mentioned previously, your core values are your internal GPS, which has an effect on your mindset and your mindset on your core values. Your core values hold the answer for you even when you don’t know the next step. The more intentional you are in designing your core values and living them out, you will harness their power within you, they will influence your mindset and play a major role in your life. Are you experiencing life on what brings true meaning to you? If not, check your internal GPS and see if you have been intentional about living out your core values.

Your mindset is your state of mind in which you organize and orient your thoughts and feelings about the world, and about yourself. Your core values can partner with your mindset to optimize your thoughts, actions, intentions and experiences.  Your core values influence your mindset!

Re-Design Your Core Values System

Tony Robbins shares five questions that he went through to evaluate and re-design his value hierarchy so that he could create and shape his ultimate destiny:

1.   What do my values need to be in order to create my ultimate destiny, in order to be the best person I could possibly be, in order to have the largest impact in my lifetime?

2.   What other values would I need to add?

3.   What values should I eliminate from my list in order to achieve my ultimate destiny?

4.   What benefit do I get by having this value in this position on my hierarchy?

5.   In what order do my values need to be to achieve my ultimate destiny?

TODAY BE INTENTIONAL WITH YOUR CORE VALUES AND WATCH YOUR DESTINY TAKE SHAPE!
