Be Determined!

"Failure will never overtake me if my determination to succeed is strong enough." --Og Mandino

What are you determined about?  Are you determined to be successful, be healthy, be a good parent, have strong faith, be debt free…?

A determined person is defined as someone who has “made a firm decision and being resolved not to change it.” Determination plays a key role in achieving success. And remember, success is defined differently by each person.

Former professional boxer Mike Tyson says, “Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face.” Life can hit you in the face, right, so what will you do?  When a boxer gets into the ring and they want to win, they know they will have to take some hits.

How Do You Stay Determined?

I asked some entrepreneur friends to SHARE with YOU some tips they use to stay DETERMINED…

Aree Bly / “I never know whether something I am trying to do is going to succeed. I constantly remind myself that I can only make sure that it does not fail because I am not trying my best. That is one thing that I can control.” https://alignmentally.com

Jeff Meister / “All I need is someone to tell me I can't do something... that works every time!” https://www.lifeuntucked.net

Bernadette Johnson / “For me...both personally and professionally...if I remember my intentions, my 'why' and to stay curious it keeps me grounded and gives me perspective when things are tough. I tend to be the "go lick your wounds, strategize next steps and come back stronger" kind of person!!” www.bernadettejohnson.com

Travis Crutcher / “Opposition is just another word for opportunity. Whether it’s to learn, grow, improve, or change my own perspective. The mission doesn’t change but the approach is flexible.” www.aboveaverageleadership.com

How does determination look ON YOU?

  • Determination packs up limiting beliefs and sends it down the road.

  • Determination knows its “why.”

  • Determination does not give up.  The course may change, not the end result.

  • Determination knows rejection is part of the game.

  • Determination doesn’t let distractions distract!

  • Determination says it is never too late and you are not too old!

  • Determination doesn’t compare and works from its own strengths.

  • Determination asks for help.

  • Determination is not perfect, but it comes from a perfect heart!

    DETERMINATION IS YOU!

Here is a popular story about a mule and the lessons about determination and overcoming adversity.

It was a story of a farmer whose mule fell in the well. The farmer decided that neither the mule nor the well was worth the trouble of saving. He asked his neighbors to help haul dirt to bury the old mule in the well and put him out of his misery.

Initially, the old mule was hysterical! But as the farmer and his neighbors continued shoveling and the dirt hit his back, a thought struck him. It suddenly dawned on him that every time a shovel load of dirt landed on his back, he would shake it off and step up! This he did, blow after blow. “Shake it off and step up . . . shake it off and step up . . . shake it off and step up!” he repeated to encourage himself.

No matter how painful or distressing the situation seemed, the old mule fought panic and just kept right on shaking it off and stepping up! It wasn’t long before the old mule, battered and exhausted, stepped triumphantly over the wall of that well! What seemed to bury him actually helped him!
